An Update for the Sun Foundation Family

We hope you are doing well during this time of transition. We wanted to let you know that despite the challenges of 2020, we look forward to resuming our programming in 2021.

Work has begun on a new virtual program to present the Clean Water Celebration on WTVP’s Remote channel. This year, thanks to special donors, we were able to provide 98 teachers from 29 schools—everyone who would have attended the 2020 program—a packet including the book One Single Species: Why the Connections in Nature Matter by Susan E. Quinlan, Starbucks coffee, sustainable food storage wrap samples, and a reusable water bottle.

For 46 years, Art & Science in the Woods has offered financial need scholarships to underserved children in our community, who rely on programs like ours to get a glimpse into what is possible. This year we are collaborating with local youth organizations to provide STEM and art enrichment packets delivered with their lunch program. Next year, we hope to resume Art & Science in the Woods in its traditional form… in nature!

Our Community Art Access Grants program is ready to go with minor adjustments. We are also working with artists and scientists on virtual programs with the theme, “What positive things can we do during COVID?”

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to recover $33,000 of our $45,000 shortfall this fiscal year. In addition, a financial audit grant from the Miles C. Hauter Foundation allowed us to remain transparent to our supporters and the community.

We still have a way to go to ensure these important children’s programs are available in 2021 and the years to come. We really appreciate any support you may be able to give us during this time.

We wish you peace and hope you enjoy the spectacular colors of the autumn season!

With gratitude,
– Robert Ericksen
